Come to the Riverfront YMCA (map) for an all-night event. This event is usually one of the more popular events among the girls as they get to do a variety of things within a short span of time.
This year, the Sleep-In will also host the first Indian Princess Car Race. Look out Ferrari and watch out Porsche, the Indian Princesses are building and racing cars at the YMCA Sleep-In February 27th. In case you have not heard, the YMCA will set up a track the Saturday night of Sleep-in so we can race cars. Here is your racing information and options for the evening:
Build a Car for the Fun of It
- Buy a car kit from the Longhouse or buy cool designer kit on your own
- Build the car with your daughter
- Don’t worry about weight, length, height and wheel restrictions’
- Run the car down the track as often as she wants
- Heart rate remains constant as you watch the car run down the track
Build a Car to Run in Competition
- Buy the official car kit from the Longhouse or the exact same kit (see below) elsewhere
- Let the Cherokee Tribe know you will be in the competitive race (email on attached document).
- Build the car with your daughter
- Adhere to the car guidelines (see below for rules) for height, weight, length etc.
- Have the car pass inspection between 8:30 and 9:00 PM
- Competitive racing starts at 9:00 PM until completed. Racing guidelines (i.e., how do you win) will be distributed in the near future. The rules are still being finalized.
- Heart rate fluctuates every time your daughter’s car is put in the starting gate.
I think that summarizes what we have planned for the evening. Now a few more miscellaneous notes:
- The track will be set up on the second floor overlooking the gymnastics area.
- The Longhouse has purchased 50 car kits and will seel them for $5 each.
- Contact me if you want to purchase a kit. I have the kits at my house and will bring them with me to Winter Camp. If you are at Indian Guides Winter Camp this weekend I will have a limited number of kits with me.
- If you want to run in the competitive race you can by the official kit from the Longhouse or at the Hobby Lobby in Stow. If you purchase from another source sure to buy the following kit: PINECAR RACER Basic Kit P370. You may be able to get this same kit elsewhere, but I am not aware of any other locations.
- The Cherokee tribe will be responsible for checking in the competitive cars and running the race. Any questions about rules interpretation should be directed to them. There is an email on the attached document.
- NOW IT’S TIME TO WARM UP THE BELT SANDER AND HAVE SOME AERODYNAMIC FUN WITH YOUR DAUGHTER!!!
Arrive anytime after 7:15 P.M. and do some swimming, gymnastics, rock-climbing, basketball, volleyball and other fun stuff before turning in at midnight. You can either spend the night and enjoy some donuts with your tribe in the morning, or head on home if you wish and sleep in your own bed.
