Officer Descriptions

Longhouse Chief

The Longhouse Chief is the overall leader of the leader of all tribes which are collectively known as the Longhouse. The duties of this position are the following:

  • To preside at all Longhouse Council meetings
  • To see that the Constitution and Bylaws are followed
  • To preside over all Longhouse ceremonies
  • To be Chairman of the Executive Committee
  • To install all other elected Executive Committe members
  • To coordinate and supervise all aspects of the membership campaign
  • To communicate with the Executive Committee of the Rolling Plains Longhouse – Indian Guides

Medicine Man

Besides getting to wear the “Horns” headress, the duties of this position are the following:

  • To assist the Longhouse Chief with his duties
  • To preside in the absence of the Longhouse Chief
  • To maintain all award participation figures and determine those Princesses who qualify for awards
  • To determine the Joe Friday award
  • To design, order, and distribute patches

Tallykeeper

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To keep minutes of all Longhouse Council and Executive Committee meetings and provide copies of the same to all members of the Executive Committee
  • To edit the monthly Longhouse Newsletter “Longtalk” and coordinate its publication and distribution with the YMCA
  • To handle all Longhouse correspondence
  • To handle all publicity to the local newspapers with regard to Longhouse

Wampum Bearer

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To handle all financial obligations assumed by the Longhouse Council
  • To handle all monies for the Longhouse, including collections and disbursements, and to maintain an accurate record of all transactions, reporting the same at each Longhouse Council meeting

Rainmaker

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To work with the Longhouse Chief, Wampum Bearer, and Executive Committee to develop and proposed budget for the Longhouse
  • To plan and coordinate Fund Raising events as directed by the Longhouse Council or the Executive Committee to meet the budget needs of the Longhouse

Legend Maker

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To create and maintain the website and keep all information correct and up-to-date
  • To post notices, Longtalks, event listings and changes, and any other material or links as shall be directed by the Longhouse Council or the Executive Comittee
  • To maintain all email address for tribes lists, officer lists and the like

Hudson Nation Chief / Stow-Kent Nation Chief

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To organize and coordinate all recruitment within the community for the nation
  • To assign trives for new members and organize new tribes
  • To assist all tribes in the nation
  • To be responsible for all Longhouse property and see that it is properly maintained and stored
  • To contact any tribes within the nation who are not present at a Longhouse meeting and/or have not been attending Longhouse events

Sachem

The duties of this position are the following:

  • To server the Longhouse Council and Executive Comittee in an advisory capacity
  • To install the new Longhouse Chief
